Away In The Forrest

30 Dec

An Australian Nativity 2019

Away in the forest no cot for a bed,

Jesus laid down his sing’d head

The Stars in the night sky were hidden by smoke

The little boy Jesus was crying where he lay.

The galahs are screeching, the baby stirs,

Jesus cries as he wakes.

I beg you, Jesus! look down through the smoke,

And stay right here until danger is passed.

Be here, Jesus; I beg you this day

In this burning time, and protect me I pray.

Rescue your creatures, scared and scarred,

And take us to safety to live with you there.

(Apologies to Away in a Manger)
